- Ulcerative Colitis
- SYMPTOMS. There will be extensive diarrhea that may be accompanied by fever,
- abdominal cramps, loss of appetite, loss of weight, blood and mucus in the
- stools and anemia. In severe cases the stools may consist almost entirely of
- blood and pus.
- CAUSES are unknown at this time. The disease ulcerates and inflames the
- colon most often in the age group from 15 to 40 years.
- TREATMENT. Medication and a high-calorie, high-protein diet.
- .If anemia is severe, a blood transfusion may be required.
- .Surgery may be required.
